How to clean your window blinds and shutters

Preparing your home for a private viewing is essential. These are the things you should focus on...

Dust Regularly

Don’t leave out cleaning your shutters or blinds out of your regular cleaning routine. They are right by your window, and very likely to build up on dust if you don’t clean them regularly. Dusting on a weekly or fortnightly basis is best and will make it easier when it’s time for a deeper clean.

Use A Microfiber Duster or Cloth

Don’t own a microfiber duster or cloth? It’s time to get one. Microfiber cloths absorb dust, moisture and other particles. They are known to remove about 98.9% in removing bacteria, compared to regular towels or dusters. In fact, regular dusters sometimes just spread the dust and settle on another surface, which beats the point of cleaning.

Use this Venetian Slat Cleaner from Bunnings

This slat cleaner can be used for your Venetian blinds or shutters. They have multiple rows that can clean your slats all at once, making it sure quick and practical to clean regularly. Check out the slat cleaner here.

Use Worn Out Socks

For nooks and crannies that you can’t reach with a cloth, you can wrap old socks around a ruler to clean those bits out.

Start From The Top

If you’re cleaning shutters, make sure you start from the top slat, and work your way down, to prevent dust from settling on the lower slats.

Careful Vacuuming

If you’re wanting to do a quick clean of the house with a vacuum cleaner, make sure to use the brush attachment and set it on a low-intensity setting to clean your shutters and blinds.

Winter-care

During winters in New Zealand, your windows are likely to form mould every now and then. So, make sure to clean the area around your windows, to prevent the mould from transferring to your blinds or shutters.
